I have finally concluded this 8h endeavor of updating my website.. at the cost of my left eyeball’s extreme pain. This wonderful audio player plugin wouldn’t work with the theme that I chose for my website, so I had to spend so much time looking for other alternatives = not fun. In any case, it has been updated, after two years. Please feel free to pay a visit!

An American friend, Mindy, who works in Minnesota came to visit New York just this past weekend for her high school union. I hadn’t seen her in about ten years. She is one of my FIRST foreign friends – we met in Beijing while I was ten years old, and she was working for China Radio International at the time. If I were to talk about how we met, I’d have to sit here for another hour. But we met, even though she is of the age of my parents, she has such a flamboyant and larger than life personality that I felt – though slightly intimidated because I spoke practically no English back in Beijing at that young age, but also closer to her because I felt she was one of us, the children.
Ten years has past, I am now living in New York and able to communicate freely in English, meeting her again feels not only like meeting an old friend, but also gaining a new one. The loud, happy laughters and exaggerated emotional outbursts are still there, but I am realizing that she has so many stories to tell and so much intellectual insights to offer. Time sculpts us into such interesting pieces.
Mindy was born in Washington Heights, and she loves that area dearly. Today I went there, discovering it for the first time in my life, this peaceful beauty on the Manhattan island.

Bridesmaids is one of the best chick flicks I’ve ever seen! Highly entertaining, no predictable plots (well, all movies are on some levels predictable; but I’m talking about the lack of cheesy details), and I love that the main character of the movie is not really the bride. Highly recommended movie for a Friday night.
The next movie that I’m looking forward to (laugh if you wish) is the Smurfs movie, especially seeing it in New York about the Smurfs in New York. :) It’s as if my childhood companions have come to visit me after twenty years, it is rather an exciting prospect. (I don’t know about you, but I grew up with Smurfs colouring books and Smurfs books teaching me what an apple was and how to spell “red” while attending a kindergarten in China that has a section of the outdoor playground schemed on the mushroom houses; as I grew a little older I owned Smurfs erasers and sang the theme song to school so as you could understand, when I say “childhood companion” I really mean it).
Other than that, I have received a post card sent by my dear violinist friend J from Paris/Berlin. The slash indicates a confusion in that he wrote the card while he was in Berlin but the official post stamp was from Paris. I was elated to have received it in the mail – J has been gone for almost three weeks to Europe and I haven’t heard a thing from him since he had left except the rare occasions of seeing him on gmail chat, but even then I wanted to leave this his whole “expat” experience more authentic (and perhaps mine, too, as I am living on the other end of his experience) so I never said a thing. He will be back to NYC soon, and I’m sure there will be loads of stories to tell over luscious dinner parties. J, safe travels and yes, MET museum will be a must!

As you might see, I have changed the layout yet again for my blog; added a few plugins and widgets, totally happy with the way it is. I really haven’t been keeping up with my blogging for.. well, at least the past two years. This is all going to change! (hopefully) Please feel free to subscribe.
Also, I am going to recommend National Geographic Music Explorer – Tango Passion (yes you can listen to the entire album by clicking the link) to those who enjoy tango and tango music like I do. Possibly one of the best and most authentic.
得了,这捅捅那弄弄我把博客又改了一个版,打算重操旧业,收拾一下破江山。欢迎大家订阅。以上推荐了一个探戈CD,是我听过的最好的之一。
