Bridesmaids is one of the best chick flicks I’ve ever seen! Highly entertaining, no predictable plots (well, all movies are on some levels predictable; but I’m talking about the lack of cheesy details), and I love that the main character of the movie is not really the bride. Highly recommended movie for a Friday night.
The next movie that I’m looking forward to (laugh if you wish) is the Smurfs movie, especially seeing it in New York about the Smurfs in New York. :) It’s as if my childhood companions have come to visit me after twenty years, it is rather an exciting prospect. (I don’t know about you, but I grew up with Smurfs colouring books and Smurfs books teaching me what an apple was and how to spell “red” while attending a kindergarten in China that has a section of the outdoor playground schemed on the mushroom houses; as I grew a little older I owned Smurfs erasers and sang the theme song to school so as you could understand, when I say “childhood companion” I really mean it).
Other than that, I have received a post card sent by my dear violinist friend J from Paris/Berlin. The slash indicates a confusion in that he wrote the card while he was in Berlin but the official post stamp was from Paris. I was elated to have received it in the mail – J has been gone for almost three weeks to Europe and I haven’t heard a thing from him since he had left except the rare occasions of seeing him on gmail chat, but even then I wanted to leave this his whole “expat” experience more authentic (and perhaps mine, too, as I am living on the other end of his experience) so I never said a thing. He will be back to NYC soon, and I’m sure there will be loads of stories to tell over luscious dinner parties. J, safe travels and yes, MET museum will be a must!
The orchid is a gift from my mother when I graduated a few weeks ago. They were beautifully in bloom, with robust buds ready to pop the wonder of nature any minute. But I guess it is time for even these little dainties to fall, as summer is approaching (I’m talking about the official date of course; the temperature in New York has reached 36C already! not that I’m complaining, since the last few days of August in Beijing when I was there last year kept roaming in the 40′s)
I may have mentioned that I have also acquired a pot of gardenia jasminoides with booming green leaves, so green that they look like they are coated with oil. I read that they are Ms.High Maintenances, for that reason I misted my pot every day, few times a day, taking care of its water level, making sure I plucked the dying leaves etc.. – only to realize that they have attracted little white spiders! So again I went online in search for organic treatment, and found that spraying pepper water would kill those little unwanted pests. One spritz, before anything, I started coughing ceaselessly while chocking my face red – but to my joy, those little spiders are gone for good! Now there are some more buds coming out of the jasminoides, hopefully they will bloom soon!
I have also mentioned a while ago that I purchased some ranunculus bulbs directly shipped from Holland. I got them in the mail (didn’t have to wait long for shipping), they indeed looked like dried bunch of little bananas. I planted them in the soil about three weeks ago, watering almost every day, and this is what I’m looking at everyday:
The growth of my little sprouts! There are two more little ones that just saw the sun and the world, there is so much joy seeing these little things poking their little heads out.
My dear readers, a few days of moving mess and a graduation ceremony later, I am now officially enjoying the first day of my summer break. It really didn’t come easy, trust me when I say, haha.
When I came from Toronto to New York City for my Master’s degree in music, I really didn’t expect things to happen the way they did for the past two years. A lot of struggles, real-world experiences (sometimes reality slapped me on the face), hardship that I needed to go through, but two years later, I’m just so thankful for all that has happened. I met some amazing people, both in the professional world and otherwise, some of them became really good friends for life (I hope!), and I there is not a single thing that I regret (except maybe I could have worked even harder, but that’s always the case).
Now that I FINALLY have sometime purely to myself, there are some projects that I need to complete:
1. sort through ALL photos and organize them into categories (this may take .. days..)
2. planting adventures! I just purchased some bulbs of ranunculus from Holland and hope they will blossom!
3. redesign my website
4. take my nikon d70 to be fixed.. (I “accidentally” broke it while taking in on a horse back ride in China, yes I did get some nice shots but in hindsight maybe it expense was not worth it)
my orchid and dahlia. new members of the household!
It was a stressful week, although I immensely enjoyed studying for my exams – and perhaps in the first time in my life, felt slightly helpless writing an essay, yes an essay on Wagner as you might have imagined.
Right after my last school engagement, I partied. I had a wonderful time cooking with my girlfriend, had some drinks, made some milkshake (newly invented recipe!) and had a great time watching Letters to Juliet. The next day, I met up with another long-missed girlfriend visiting from Boston (and her boyfriend!), after that, another party. Oh yeah.
Except, I really really really just want to sit and do nothing for a while. You know, nobody to bother you, listen to some good music, read some good books, keep life’s shit out of the door.
So that’s what I’m doing tonight. Have a good sleep.

A song I randomly heard yesterday which was used in a movie I watched a while ago, only I can’t remember what. But I love the feel this song gives. Hope you also get to unwind. :)
