Luna’s last concerts
Last night I went to bed at around 11:30pm, couldn’t fall asleep until 5am. Got up around 9 today and had a run-through with my trio for some teachers and friends: I. Am. So. Tired.
At the same time, I’m so excited for tomorrow’s concert – even though knowing it may very well be Luna’s last concerts…. Our cellist sent us a facebook letter, which moved me to tears. I decided to share it here, because it touched my heart.
Hello Lunas,
Well, I thought for sure that by today we would be
totally sick of each other and just ready to get this concert over
with. But instead, I’m feeling sad at the thought of it all being over
in 2 days. We’ve been looking forward to this concert since last
January and now it’s finally here after a year and a half. And to think
of how much has happened in between.
We’ve done so much work in
two years together, and we’ve been probably one of the most successful
student groups to have passed through U of T. Starting that one night
with the Brahms in room 216, I think we knew what was coming for us.
From
Cafe Music at that little retirement home:), George Weston, winning
Galimir, playing at that old mansion on Spadina, our awesome recital,
going to Banff, the amazing experiences we had out there, coming home
1000 times better than when we left, getting our Beethoven together,
Newmarket, and now finally, our first real professional gig. We’ve come
a long way since that first meeting in 216.
Firstly, I have to
thank both of you for such an incredible two years of music making and
friendship. I know we’ve definitely had our rough patches in both those
areas, but we’ve come out stronger and better people/musicians. I have
improved so much just from being around the wonderful musicians that
you both are. I’ve learned a lot about music and how to make it more
beautiful and give it true meaning. I’ve learned how to work with a
piece, work as a chamber group. Thank you both for being such amazing
trio members:)
And of course, we don’t know what the future has
in store for us, and this could very well be our last public
performance together. With each of us most likely going our separate
ways next year, who knows when we’ll get the chance to play again for
an audience? So, with that in mind, let’s give this recital everything
we have. Let’s get excited, find that energy we have inside, and let’s
leave everything on stage tomorrow. I know that if we just give it our
all, and play as best as we can, it will be an incredible feeling and
the only real way to finish our two years together as Trio Luna.
(Of course, we’ll still be Trio Luna, just a little bit more spread out :P)
So, are we going to rock this fucking thing tomorrow or what??!?! We’ll be having such a good time, we won’t want to stop!!
